After much difficulty obtaining land access permission, quotes, contractors, and locates, we have finally been able to start drilling on site. Thus far, we have installed 3 Solinst CMT multilevel wells, each well containing 7 ports located at a different elevations. The hope is to install thermistors and pressure transducers within each port to track theContinue reading “Drilling Time”

Canada Day in Waterloo
As Canada celebrates its 146th year since Confederation, I was excited to spend the big day dressed in red-and-white in Waterloo. As member of the Student of the Water Institute – Graduate Section (SWIGS), I helped organize a station in the UW Activity Zone to get kids excited about water through educational games and activities.Continue reading “Canada Day in Waterloo”
Field Season Underway
Summer field season is upon us! Although the weather has been rather erratic over the last few weeks, it has been great to get outside. We have an excellent team of undergrad co-op students working with us this term. They are each looking at a different topic throughout the watershed, which we will be piecingContinue reading “Field Season Underway”
Hydrogeology Field School
Last week marked the completion of my graduate course requirements for my MSc program. Although I may decide to take courses over the next year for personal interest’s sake, this still felt like a huge milestone in this whole Master’s process. And the completion of this “final” course felt particularly rewarding. It was a threeContinue reading “Hydrogeology Field School”
Weather Station Up!
It was a beautiful day in the field, installing the final pieces onto our second meteorological station. Two down, three to go — here’s hoping for a very productive next two weeks!
Spring Sampling and Flow Measurements
Despite getting a ton of water in our hip waders today, it was still great to be out in the field. And in positive temperatures nonetheless! We went from the south to the north end of our watershed today, gathering water samples from the creek and using some of our new equipment. The sondes weContinue reading “Spring Sampling and Flow Measurements”
Telemetry Time
Finally installed the modem in our main meteorological station! Data sent automatically to the lab? Oh yes. When we got back to the lab, our minor met. station equipment had arrived. Boxes everywhere. It looks like it will be a field heavy spring – excellent!
P.Geo, here I come!
Today I received information regarding the Geologist-in-Training application I submitted to the APGO a few months back. I am now a G.I.T. and E.I.T!! To top things off, a ton of our equipment arrived today. Can’t get much better than that!
Starting Equipment Installations
Yesterday we installed our first piece of equipment at my field site – a pressure transducer logger to measure and record stream depth data. It was a perfectly sunny winter’s day for the job.
NSERC Funding
I received exciting news yesterday – I am officially an NSERC Scholar, having funding approved as part of the Industrial Postgraduate Program in joint co-operation with the Region. Thank you for your support!
